NZ National Flash Fiction Day Micro Madness – 2nd Prize

I gained second prize in NZ NFFD Micro Madness competition with my piece ‘Dust’.

At night I turn to dust, just to practise.

My husband thinks that I’m out on the town, on the razz, on my back. But I’m sprinkled softly on the surface of everyday things.

I long for a breeze to scatter me from this pillow, this book, this ornament. Or to escape into the night on the wing of a moth. But all is still.

By sunrise, I reform –  my particles not quite in place. He kisses the top of my head as if I’m the same wife as yesterday.
